Commissioner O'Bryan conveyed that one thing he had wanted to accomplish <br />during his term was for Indian River County (IRC) to become a more green, sustainable County. <br />He had formed the IRC Sustainability Committee that had hosted a workshop during which <br />representatives from the Florida Green Building Coalition spoke about becoming a Certified Local <br />Green Government. At that workshop, he had declared that his goal was for Indian River County <br />to apply to become a Certified Green Local Government. Commissioner O'Bryan asked for Board <br />approval to move ahead with this process, and stated that staff would put together a formal <br />Resolution and bring it back to the Board for formal adoption. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner O'Bryan <br />SECONDED by Vice Chair Bowden, to have Indian River <br />County apply to the Florida Green Building Coalition to <br />become certified as a Green Local Government. <br />Under Discussion, Vice Chair Bowden inquired whether there was a cost. <br />Commissioner O'Bryan said the first direct cost would be the $3,500.00 certification application <br />cost, and pointed out that the County would more than recoup that with energy savings and <br />sustainability. <br />The Chairman CALLED THE QUESTION and by a 4-0 <br />vote (Commissioner Davis absent), the Motion CARRIED <br />unanimously, approving the County's application to <br />become certified as a Green Local Government, through the <br />Florida Green Building Coalition. <br />14.
