FIRE AND EMS CONSOLIDATION <br /> <br />IRCESDJK <br />NDIAN IVER OUNTY MERGENCY ERVICES IRECTOR OHN ING <br /> <br />Director King used a PowerPoint presentation (copy on file) to illustrate the <br />timeline from the development of a strategic plan to consolidate the Fire and EMS Divisions. He <br />explained the delivery of emergency services, analysis of the current situation, administrative <br />problems, organizational challenges, implementation plan, consultant reports, and expectations <br />of the Fire/EMS consolidation. <br /> <br />MCESDSW <br />ARTIN OUNTY MERGENCY ERVICES IRECTOR TEVE OLFBERG <br /> <br />Steve Wolfberg <br />Emergency Services Director used a PowerPoint presentation <br />(copy on file) to explain the timeline from formal discussion to the full consolidation. He <br />asserted that the experience has been positive for Martin County. He went on to address some of <br />the decision-making, challenges, costs, and the outcome of the consolidation. <br />Discussion continued on volunteer firefighters/EMS workers, clauses for <br />paramedics who did not want to become firefighters, and how municipalities handled the <br />consolidation. <br />Wolfberg <br />Mr. explained that the $90,000 annual salary for a Firefighter/EMS <br />employee includes all benefits and high-risk retirement. He stressed they do not net $90,000 a <br />year. He asserted that the average firefighters’ wage is around $42,000 without the added <br />benefits. <br />DiTerlizzi <br />Commissioner stated Martin County hears many positive public <br />comments regarding the Fire Rescue Division. <br /> <br />August 16, 2005 7 <br />Joint Workshop with Martin County <br /> <br />
