ROBBINS NOTED THAT THE FLORIDAN AQUIFER IS A DEEP <br />AQUIFER LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 400' BELOW GROUND SURFACE. <br />COMMISSIONER FLETCHER ASKED IF THEY ARE GOING TO THE DEEP <br />AQUIFER AND USING REVERSE OSMOSIS, AND ENGINEER ROBBINS RESPONDED <br />AFFIRMATIVELY. <br />COMMISSIONER FLETCHER STATED THAT THERE WAS SALT WATER INTRUSION <br />IN THE DEEP AQUIFER RIGHT NOW, AND ASKED MR, ROBBINS IF THAT WAS <br />CORRECT. <br />MR. ROBBINS RESPONDED THAT IN CERTAIN AREAS, THERE WAS SALT <br />WATER INTRUSION. HE CONTINUED THAT WHEN YOU TALK OF SALT WATER INTRUSION, <br />YOU ARE TALKING IN TERMS OF 10,000 TO 12,000 PARTS PER MILLION, NOT <br />800 OR 900, MR. ROBBINS REPORTED THAT THE EPA AND THE DER FIGURES <br />FOR TOTAL DISSOLVED SOLIDS, IS 500 MILLIGRAMS PER LITER FOR COMMUNITY <br />DRINKING, AFTER TREATMENT. <br />COMMISSIONER FLETCHER COMMENTED THAT HE DID NOT FEEL A LOT OF <br />PEOPLE KNEW THAT THE DEEP AQUIFER WAS BEING IMPREGNATED WITH SALT <br />WATER RIGHT NOW TODAY, AND IT WAS GETTING WORSE. HE THEN ASKED IF <br />THAT WAS A CORRECT STATEMENT. <br />MR. ROBBINS COMMENTED THAT IT WAS, PARTIALLY. HE CONTINUED <br />THAT THERE IS A HYDRAULIC INTERFACE BETWEEN THE OCEAN AND THE FLORIDAN <br />AQUIFER SEVERAL MILES OFFSHORE. HE ADDED THAT THERE IS A LEAKAGE FROM <br />THE FLORIDAN AQUIFER INTO THE OCEAN SEVERAL MILES OFFSHORE. MR. <br />ROBBINS POINTED OUT THAT IT WOULD BE UNREASONABLE TO ASSUME THAT <br />THERE IS NOT SOME FORM OF DIFFUSION OF THE ATLANTIC OCEAN BACK INTO <br />THE FLORIDAN AQUIFER, HOWEVER, THE DEPTHS OF ZONE EOR PRODUCTION OF <br />TREATABLE WATER ARE ON THE RANGE FROM 0 TO APPROXIMATELY 1,000' BELOW <br />GRADE. HE CONTINUED THAT THE HIGH CONCENTRATIONS OF CHLORIDES, AS <br />A RESULT OF SEA WATER INTRUSION, ARE IN THE AREAS OF 1500' TO 2000'. <br />MR. ROBBINS ADVISED THE ENTIRE FORMATION OF THE AQUIFER IS MADE UP <br />OF VARIOUS TYPES OF STONE, SHELL FRAGMENTS, SAND, MINERAL DEPOSITS - <br />A MAJORITY OF THAT SEA WATER WAS INTRODUCED INTO THE AQUIFER DURING <br />
