D E c 311980 <br />.45 wi <br />E547 <br />MEMORANDUM December 22, 1980 <br />TO:, Board of County ,Commissioners <br />FROM: County Administrator <br />SUBJECT: Sign Making Shop <br />ENCLOSURE: Director of Materials Management Memo to County <br />Administrator Dated 12-8-80, Same Subject <br />The Materials Management'Director has conducted a staff <br />study to determine the feasibility of the County making its <br />own signs. His report to me is enclosed. <br />We have previously bid the sign machine and it is <br />available on order. Based upon his report, it is recommended <br />that: <br />1. The County purchase equipment required to <br />establish a sign making shop. Estimated <br />cost, $7,000. - -. <br />2. The -County order and stock supplies to begin the <br />- sign making operation. _ <br />3. The County make and repair all signs used -by the <br />County with the exception of the county pentagon <br />shape signs. - <br />- _0 & <br />Neil A. Pursuant to your instructions, I have completed a survey on the <br />feasibility of the County producing our own street and road signs <br />versus purchasing ready-made signs as we are presently doing. <br />2. In order to conduct this survey,.I visited the Road Department, <br />St. Lucie County, Ft. Pierce, F1., and the Sign Shop, City of Vero <br />Beach. The Sign Shop for the City of Vero Beach is under the <br />supervision of the City Police Department. :I want to bring to your <br />attention that both of the departments that I visited were very <br />cooperative and furnished me with valuable information and data. <br />In addition, both of these departments volunteered to assist u_s.in <br />any way, should we decide to establish our own Sign Shop. <br />3. St. Lucie County has two employees who make and erect all of their <br />street and road s-igns. The City of Vero Beach has three employees <br />in their Sign Shop, however, these employees also accomplish their <br />street and curb painting and striping. The City of Vero Beach has <br />approximately 4000 signs in their inventory. <br />4. The following is a cost breakdown for personnel and equipment to <br />- establish a sign shop: <br />* (2) employees annual salary(s) _ 21,600.00 <br />(1) Sign Making Machine 5,005.00 <br />(1) Dip Tank, size 5' x 4' x 3', (this tank <br />can be fabricated) 250.00 <br />(2) Lay out table, 4' x 8' 100.00 <br />(2) Paper Cutters _ <br />200.00 <br />(1) Storage Bins (for letters & numbers) 150.00 <br />
