PART 3 - EXECUTION <br />3.01 GENERAL CONSTRUCTION METHODS <br />Seeding and mulching operations will not be permitted when wind velocities exceed 15 <br />miles per hour. Seed shall be sown only when the soil is moist and in proper condition <br />to induce growth. No seeding shall be done when the ground is frozen, unduly wet, or <br />otherwise not in a tillable condition. Whenever a suitable length of right-of-way or <br />adjacent area has been graded, it shall be made ready, when directed by the Engineer, <br />and grassed in accordance with these specifications. Grassing shall be incorporated into <br />the project at the earliest practical time in the lift of the contract. <br />3.02 SODDING <br />A. Preparation of Area to be Sodded: The ground which is to receive sod shall have <br />been graded to proper elevations (2 below sodded grade) to match pre - <br />construction conditions or proposed grades. All disturbed swales and ditches <br />shall have been restored to their pre -construction condition or better. The pre - <br />reasonable smooth. Where new sod is to <br />be placed adjacent to existing sod, the new sod must be cut in to match the <br />elevation of the existing sod. Uneven sod which might cause mowing problems <br />will be rejected. New sod laid on top of existing sod will also be rejected. All <br />sod placed on steep slopes (greater than 1:1) shall be pinned with a wooden pin <br />to keep it in place. <br />C. Rolling: Immediately after completion of the sod laying, the entire sodded area <br />shall be rolled thoroughly with the equipment specified. At least two trips over <br />the entire area will be required. <br />D. Watering: Newly -sodded areas are to be watered by Contractor as necessary to <br />keep sod alive until the Contractor is closed out. Dead sod shall be replaced by <br />Contractor prior to contract closeout. <br />3.03 1 SEEDING <br />A. Sequence of Operations: The operations involved in the work shall proceed in <br />the following sequence: preparation of the ground, seeding, spreading, and <br />cutting in mulch. <br />02485 Grassing.doc <br />02485-3 <br />
