DISCUSSION THEN AROSE REGARDING THE FACT THAT SINCE THIS IS <br />A COUNTY ROAD THERE IS A CERTAIN LIABILITY CONNECTED WITH IT, AND THE <br />CURBING MAY HAVE TO MEET COUNTY STANDARDS. COUNTY ENGINEER DAVIS BE— <br />LIEVED WE CAN REFER TO D.O,T. SPECIFICATIONS, <br />COMMISSIONER BIRD SUGGESTED THAT WE ALSO OFFER THE CITY OF <br />FELLSMERE THE ASSISTANCE OF THE COUNTY ENGINEER TO HELP WITH DESIGN <br />AND SPECIFICATIONS. THE BOARD AGREED. <br />THE CHAIRMAN CALLED FOR THE QUESTION, IT WAS VOTED ON AND <br />CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. <br />COUNTY PARTICIPATION RE HIRING AGRICULTURAL AGENT <br />ADMINISTRATOR NELSON NOTED THAT PETER SPYKE, AGRICULTURAL <br />AGENT, RESIGNED SOMETIME AGO, AND IN THE PROCESS OF REPLACING THE <br />AGRICULTURAL AGENT, THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA ADVERTISES AND CHOOSES <br />A NUMBER OF TOP APPLICANTS, THE COMMISSIONERS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY <br />EITHER TO INTERVIEW ALL THE APPLICANTS OR JUST THE TOP THREE, WHICH HAS <br />BEEN THE POLICY IN THE PAST, COUNTY EXTENSION DIRECTOR JUDY WAKEFIELD <br />IS RECOMMENDING THAT INSTEAD OF THE ENTIRE BOARD INTERVIEWING THESE <br />APPLICANTS THAT A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE BOARD, ALONG WITH THE COMMITTEE <br />OF FIVE THAT SHE HAS RECOMMENDED, INTERVIEW THE APPLICANTS, THIS IS <br />EXPLAINED IN HER MEMO: <br />TO: Neil A. Wakefield <br />County.Extension Director <br />DATE: May 26, 1981 FILE: <br />SUBJECT: County participation in <br />hiring Agriculture Agent <br />REFERENCES: Attachments A, B & C <br />Applications have been received by the personnel department of the <br />Florida Cooperative Extension Service in Gainesville for the vacant <br />position of the Extension Agriculture Agent in Indian River County. <br />(See attachment A for position announcement.) <br />The qualified applicants will be interviewed in Gainesville during <br />the week of June 8-12. <br />There are some matters that involve the Board of County Commissioners. <br />Since the Agriculture Agent will also be an Indian River County employee <br />he must be approved by the Board of County Commissioners or an appointed - <br />interviewing committee. (See attachment B.) <br />The Board of County Commissioners can decide if they would prefer <br />the top applicant to be interviewed and approved (or -not) in the County <br />or the top 3 applicants to be brought to Indian River County for inter- <br />viewing, and the final selection made here.
