The subject addendum was generated from the questions raised by a plan holder. The <br />questions and the answers are indicated below: <br />First, the plan notes that we are to verify that there is three (3) feet of buried post. I do not think it <br />is reasonable to require this. In order to determine the depth of the existing post it would need to <br />be disturbed, if it is disturbed it will damage the integrity. <br />Second, the proposed modification to the existing posts has been questioned by each of my <br />guardrail contractors. None of them are willing to take the risk and construct as shown. <br />We would suggest that the proposed modification would be more time consuming and put us at <br />greater risk than simply using new posts with 3 feet of buried (no need to disturb existing and <br />then try to re -use) and attaching the existing rail to the new posts. Will this be acceptable? <br />We agree that anything less will result in an unacceptable finished product. <br />Please clarify if all guardrail is to be adjusted or only that at the proposed curb locations per <br />detail. <br />Response: An alternate line item has been added to the Itemized Bid Schedule to include <br />guardrail reset with new post per FDOT Index 400 (Line Item 16A under Alternate Bid <br />Item). Please note that this alternate bid would be in lieu of line item 16 in the Itemized <br />Bid Schedule.
