Comprehensive Plan Economic Development Element <br />seven miles west of the coastal ridge. The St. Johns Marsh is west of the Ten -mile Ridge and has an <br />elevation of approximately 25 feet. <br />The second terrace in Indian River County, the Talbot Terrace, begins at the western edge of the St. <br />Johns Marsh. That terrace, which reaches an altitude of approximately 40 feet above sea level, <br />extends into and beyond the northwest corner of the county. <br />Demographic Characteristics <br />Historic Population <br />Table 5.1 shows the county's historical population for the years 1930 to 2009. For the entire 1930 to <br />2009 period, Indian River County's population increased by 134,751 persons, a 2,004% increase in <br />population over seventy-nine years. In the more recent 1980 to 2009 period, Indian River County's <br />population increased by 81,579 persons. Indian River County's growth rate was 7.94 <br />percentage points higher than the state's growth rate during that period. <br />As shown in table 5. 1, Indian River County's population increased from 112,947 people in 2000 to <br />141,475 in 2009, an increase of 25.26%.
