Comprehensive Plan Housing Element <br />of those older housing units, if not maintained adequately and upgraded with new electrical and <br />plumbing facilities, may be in need of rehabilitation to provide safe and sanitary housing for the <br />occupants and to prevent blighting influences on nearby properties. In addition, the county has reviewed all of its ordinances and regulations to <br />determine if any ordinances or regulations unnecessarily increase housing costs. Where appropriate, <br />regulations and ordinances were revised to facilitate the provision of affordable housing within the <br />county. <br />Following is a summary of the county's current affordable housing incentive strategies, regulations, <br />and programs. <br />Expedited Permitting <br />The county expedites permits, as defined in s. 163.3164(7) and (8) F.S., for affordable housing <br />projects to a greater degree than permits for other projects (see housing element policies 1.5 and <br />1.6). <br />10 <br />Community Development Department Indian River County <br />
