As such, the functional population of the entire county can be <br />determined by adding the resident and the seasonal populations of the entire county. <br />Economy <br />The local economy can greatly influence the stability and quality of life in an area. In Indian River <br />County, several economic indicators can provide an overview of the economy. Those indicators are: <br />unemployment and employment by major industrial sectors. Each of these indicators is addressed <br />below. A detailed discussion of the economy is presented in the Economic Development Element. <br />Unemployment <br />Indian River County's unemployment rate is higher than the state's as a whole.
