In 2007, there were 11 undeveloped residential sites in the unincorporated county over 100 acres <br />in area. Most of these sites are an aggregation of multiple parcels. Those vacant <br />lots in existing subdivisions accounted for 3,207 acres (approximately 10% of all residential <br />land). Vero Lake Estates is the largest subdivision with a substantial number of vacant lots. <br />Combined, the vacant lots in Vero Lake Estates total 680 acres. <br />ADJACENT/SURROUNDING LAND USES <br />For land use compatibility assessment purposes, it is necessary to examine land uses along the <br />boundaries of the municipalities within the county and along the boundaries of the surrounding <br />counties. Oftentimes, political boundaries are only lines on a map unrelated to natural features or <br />barriers. For that reason, failure to consider surrounding land uses or provide for coordination <br />among political units could result in the establishment of incompatible land uses, lead to <br />inefficient duplication of public services, or require costly solutions to problems such as traffic <br />Future Land Use Element 33 <br />
