Comprehensive Plan Potable Water Sub-Element <br /> <br /> <br />Community Development Department Indian River County 11 <br /> <br />City of Vero Beach Water System <br /> <br />The City of Vero Beach Water System serves an area larger than the city limits of Vero Beach. <br />Presently, the City of Vero Beach Water Treatment Plant serves the City of Vero Beach, the Town of <br />Indian River Shores, portions of the unincorporated mainland adjacent to the city limits, and the <br />unincorporated area of the barrier island south of the City of Vero Beach. <br /> <br />Located adjacent to the City of Vero Beach Municipal Airport, the City of Vero Beach Water <br />Treatment Plant draws raw water from both the surficial aquifer and the Upper Floridan aquifer. <br />Reverse Osmosis is used to treat water drawn from the Upper Floridan aquifer, while a lime softening <br />treatment process is used for water drawn from the surficial aquifer. <br /> <br />City of Fellsmere Water System <br /> <br />The City of Fellsmere operates a small water system that serves the city’s residents.
