Comprehensive Plan Potable Water Sub-Element <br /> <br /> <br />Community Development Department Indian River County 50 <br />POLICY 7.3: The county shall require that issuance of permits for replacement of existing <br />private wells be conditioned upon compliance with the most updated version of DEP <br />regulatory requirements and Federal and State water quality standards as identified in the <br />“Regulatory Framework” section of the sub-element. <br /> <br />POLICY 7.4: The county, in coordination with Environmental Health Department, shall <br />establish public education programs on the proper use, inspection requirements, maintenance, <br />and abandonment of private wells. <br /> <br /> <br />OBJECTIVE 8 Alternative Water Supply <br /> <br /> <br />By 2026, the county will utilize alternative water supply sources for at least 18 mgd of demand. The <br />alternative water source will supplement water obtained from the Upper Floridan aquifer (UFA). <br /> <br /> POLICY 8.1: By 2015, the county shall study and identify a viable alternative water source. <br /> <br /> POLICY 8.2: By 2020, the county shall obtain all necessary permits to construct the <br />associated infrastructure related to the alternative water support facilities. <br /> <br /> POLICY 8.3: By 2023, the county shall complete all construction plans and specifications <br />associated with the alternative water supply facilities. <br /> <br /> POLICY 8.4: By 2025, the county shall complete the construction of all infrastructure <br />associated with the alternative water supply facilities. <br /> <br /> <br />OBJECTIVE 9 Brine Disposal <br /> <br /> By 2015, all reverse osmosis water treatment plan direct brine discharges into the Indian River <br />lagoon will be eliminated. <br /> <br /> <br /> POLICY 9.1: By 2010, the county shall identify a viable alternative brine discharge method <br />for the South County RO Plant. <br /> <br /> POLICY 9.2: By 2012, the county shall obtain all necessary permits to construct the <br />associated infrastructure related to the brine disposal facilities. <br /> <br /> POLICY 9.3: By 2013, the county shall complete all construction plans and specifications <br />associated with the brine disposal facilities.
