Low, swampy, inland areas are subject to flooding during wet periods and <br />coastal areas of the county are subject to storm surge flooding resulting from <br />hurricane or tropical storm activity. Areas along the Indian River Lagoon may <br />also experience flooding from storm surge caused by hurricane winds piling <br />water against shorelines, causeways and bridges.
