2.2.4 Indian River County Department of Emergency Services, <br />Fire Rescue Division <br />The Fire Rescue Division will provide emergency medical <br />transportation to persons in need of such services, may assist <br />in the evacuation and transfer of patients from nursing homes <br />and hospitals in the affected areas, and will coordinate the <br />evacuation of persons with special needs who are unable to <br />evacuate themselves. <br />Other responsibilities shared by the Fire Division include: <br />Determining the type of and nature of the <br />hazardous material involved. <br />Giving full cooperation to assisting agencies <br />involved in determining action to be taken to <br />contain the hazardous material and restore the <br />area to normal. <br />Initially determining the necessity for an <br />evacuation, issue evacuation orders when <br />appropriate, and identify the vulnerable zone to <br />be evacuated. <br />Notifying the E-9-1-1 Communication Center and <br />the Indian River County Department of <br />Emergency Services, which will make proper <br />notification to federal and state agencies as <br />required by federal and state laws. <br />Providing vehicle washdown and monitoring, <br />when necessary, at prescribed locations and in a <br />manner consistent with the Florida Department <br />of Environmental Regulation and/or Health <br />Department direction. <br />Requesting assistance from appropriate federal <br />and state agencies through the Indian River <br />County Department of Emergency Services. <br />Indian River County Emergency Plan for Hazardous Materials Page 11 <br />
