Coordination of cleanup and recovery <br />operations; <br />Keeping county officials apprised of on -scene <br />activities. <br />b. The Emergency Management Director is responsible for <br />the activation and maintenance of the operational <br />readiness of the EOC, directing county evacuation, <br />opening shelters, requesting state assistance and all <br />recovery activities within the county. County authorities, <br />through the Emergency Management Director, may also <br />activate mutual aid agreements with neighboring <br />counties, and shall coordinate mutual aid agreements <br />between municipalities within the county. <br />3.2.2 Evacuation <br />The majority of evacuations are site specific and related to a <br />specific public safety hazard; this type of evacuation is usually <br />initiated by the first arriving public safety officer. County -wide <br />evacuations greater than a minor incident in scope will be <br />directed by the Emergency Management Director, or his <br />designee. Planned evacuations with notice, such as would <br />occur when hurricane warnings are announced, may be <br />initiated following a decision by the Board of County <br />Commissioners. In such cases, the evacuation will be <br />coordinated and administered by the county officials using <br />local government resources in accordance with county <br />evacuation plans. <br />3.2.3 Shelter Operations <br />The decision of opening shelters is a responsibility of the <br />Emergency Management Director. <br />3.2.4 Emergency Operations Center <br />The County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) may be <br />activated by the County Emergency Services Director upon <br />receipt of notification of a release of hazardous materials. <br />Appropriate response and support personnel would be called <br />to the EOC to coordinate the actions of their respective <br />agencies and organizations. Upon activation, direction and <br />control of county emergency operations would be exercised by <br />the Chairman of the BCC from the EOC.
