INDIAN RIVER COUNTY JULY 25, 2014 <br />INTERGENERATIONAL RECREATION CENTER 100% CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS <br />1. Ready -Mixed Concrete: Measure, batch, mix, and deliver concrete with MVRA <br />according to ASTM C 94/C 94M; furnish batch ticket information showing dosage <br />of MVRA. <br />2. Project -Site Mixing: Measure, batch, and mix concrete materials and concrete <br />according to ASTM C 94/C 94M. Add the MVRA to where it makes direct contact <br />with the ready mix and then rotate drum of batch truck on high for at least seven <br />minutes prior to discharge. <br />D. Freshening onsite with held back mix water is acceptable so long as the practice is in <br />accordance with published ACI guidelines and does not exceed the original water to <br />cementitious material ratio or instructions of the structural engineer. <br />E. Use of water reducing admixtures is recommended to achieve slumps greater than 4" <br />(102mm). <br />F. Use of other admixtures in the same batch as MVRA is acceptable so long as each <br />admixture is added separately. <br />G. The inclusion of a shrink reducing admixture (SRA) is not acceptable <br />H. Cold -Weather Placement: Comply with ACI 306.1. <br />Hot -Weather Placement: Comply with ACI 301. <br />3.2 CURING <br />A. General: Protect freshly placed concrete from premature drying and excessive cold or hot <br />temperatures. Comply with ACI 306.1 for cold -weather protection and ACI 301 for hot - <br />weather protection during curing. <br />B. Cure concrete slabs to receive moisture sensitive coatings according to ACI 302.2R-06, <br />by one or a combination of the following methods: <br />1. Moisture -Retaining -Cover Curing: Cover concrete surfaces with moisture - <br />retaining cover for curing concrete, placed in widest practicable width, with sides <br />and ends lapped at least 12 inches (300 mm), and sealed by waterproof tape or <br />adhesive. Cure concrete containing MVRA for not less than 24 hours, longer if <br />ambient conditions are hot, windy, and sunny or subject to periods of very low <br />humidity. Immediately repair any holes or tears during curing period using cover <br />material and waterproof tape. <br />2. Curing Compound: Apply uniformly in continuous operation by power spray or <br />roller according to manufacturer's written instructions. Recoat areas subjected to <br />heavy rainfall within three hours after initial application. Maintain continuity of <br />coating and repair damage during curing period. <br />3. Removal: After curing period has elapsed, mechanically remove curing <br />compound prior to the installation of final flooring material in accordance with <br />ASTM F-710. <br />a. Do not chemically remove. <br />3.3 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL <br />A. Testing and Inspecting: The manufacturer of the moisture vapor reduction admixture will, <br />at their expense, engage qualified agencies to obtain project specific sample cylinders <br />and independent certified laboratories for subsequent testing per ASTM D5084 and <br />preparation of test reports. <br />B. Testing of Containing MVRA: <br />1. The moisture vapor reduction admixture (MVRA) manufacturer will perform all <br />moisture testing in accordance with this specification and will issue project <br />specific warranties and adhesion guarantees prior to installation of any slab <br />finishes; no further field slab moisture nor pH testing shall be required. <br />HIGH PERFORMANCE CONCRETE MOISTURE 030510- 5 <br />VAPOR REDUCING ADMIXTURE <br />
