MANGE ORDER N0. 58 - ADMINISTRATION BUILDING <br />CONSTRUCTION PROJECT REPRESENTATIVE KONTOULAS REPORTED <br />THAT THIS CHANGE ORDER PROVIDES A NEW "C" LABELED DOUBLEWIDE DOOR <br />IN THE LITTLE CORRIDOR IN THE NORTH WING GOING INTO THE SCHOOL BOARD <br />AREA, THE EXISTING DOORS ARE NOT SATISFACTORY; THEY CANNOT CUT THE <br />DOORS TO CLEAR THE CARPET, ETC., AND HE BELIEVED A NEW FRAME WOULD <br />BE NECESSARY. ALSO ADDITIONAL HARDWARE IS REQUIRED. <br />COMMISSIONER BIRD AGAIN OBJECTED TO THE PRICE QUOTED OF <br />$2,954.70. HE STATED THAT HE WAS INFORMED A "B" LABEL DOOR COULD <br />BE PURCHASED FOR $118 AND FIREPROOF JAMBS FOR $30, WHICH WOULD BE <br />$148 FOR HALF OF THE OPENING. HE GAVE VARIOUS OTHER ESTIMATES ON <br />HARDWARE, PAINTING, ETC., TO REACH A TOTAL OF ABOUT $7001 WHICH LEFT <br />A LARGE GAP COMPARED TO THE PROPOSED PRICING. <br />MR. SNODGRASS OF REINHOLD CONSTRUCTION INFORMED THE BOARD <br />THAT THE HARDWARE COST ALONE IS $715; THE ARCHITECT DID NOT DETERMINE <br />THE HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS ORIGINALLY, AND REINHOLD CONSTRUCTION HAS <br />NO CONTROL OVER THE HARDWARE SUPPLIER. DISCUSSION CONTINUED OVER <br />WOOD DOORS AS OPPOSED TO METAL DOORS, AND MR. SNODGRASS STATED THAT <br />THEY ARE USING WOOD DOORS BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT THE ARCHITECT HAS RE— <br />QUIRED. HE THEN DESCRIBED HOW THEY HAD TO CUT OUT THE WALL TO SET <br />THE DOOR IN, WHICH LEFT A 12" GAP ON BOTH SIDES OF THE OPENING TO BE <br />REPAIRED.. THIS WAS CAUSED BY HAVING TO REMOVE THE OLD WOOD FRAMES <br />AND REPLACE THEM WITH HOLLOW METAL FRAMES. <br />DISCUSSION ENSUED ON "A" "B" AND "C" LABELS, METAL DOORS, <br />ETC., AND COMMISSIONER WODTKE INQUIRED ABOUT THE DIFFERENCE IN PRICE <br />ON THIS CHANGE ORDER FOR ONE DOOR AND CHANGE ORDER 59 WHICH INVOLVES <br />8 DOORS. MR. SNODGRASS EXPLAINED THAT ON THE 8 DOORS, THE HARDWARE <br />WAS INCLUDED IN THE SCHEDULE AND THEY DID IT HAVE TO BUY NEW HINGES, ETC. <br />IT,'WAS NOTED THAT AT THIS DATE IT IS TOO LATE TO CHANGE THE HARDWARE <br />SUPPLIER. <br />MR. SNODGRASS DISCUSSED CHANGE ORDERS WHICH GIVE THE OWNER <br />A CHANCE TO GET WHAT HE NEEDS OR WANTS AND THE CONTRACTOR A CHANCE <br />TO MAKE SOME PROFIT. HE TALKED ABOUT THE INCONVENIENCE AND EXPENSE <br />OF HAVING TO UNDO WHAT ALREADY HAS BEEN DONE, SUCH AS REMOVING CARPET, <br />TEARING UP WALLS, ETC., AND STATED THAT HE DID NOT LIKE TO COME BEFORE <br />AUG 5 1981 <br />51 - BoOk 47 PAGE 65. <br />
