infectious or contagious disease; and animals not vacinated, <br />certified or tagged in accordance with this Ordinance. <br />Section 2. The said board is hereby authorized to <br />11rovide and maintain facilities and equipment for catching, <br />picking up, impounding and otherwise dealing with such <br />animals; to appoint, employ or designate impounding officers, <br />agents or employees, fix their compensation and prescribe <br />their duties and authorities; to establish by resolution <br />fees, rates and charges for certificates, tags, boarding, <br />care avid redemption of animals; and to adopt and enforce <br />additional rules and regulations carrying out the purposes <br />of this Ordinance. <br />Section 3. It shall be the duty of any person, firm <br />or corpoiati.on owning, possessing, harboring, keeping or <br />maintaining any animal within Indian River county whic'n has <br />bitten any person or other animal under circumstances <br />indicating that it has or may have rabies, or which is belived <br />to have rabies, to surrender such animal to an impounding <br />officer, agent or employee upon his request. It shall be <br />unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to fail or <br />refuse to so surrender any such animal, and, if such animal <br />cannot be safely caught, picked up or impounded, the same <br />Irtay be killed. Such animal shall be impounded for a period <br />of time not exceeding three (3) weeks and shall then be <br />returned, if it does not appear that its continued existence <br />jeopardizes public health, safety or welfare. The Board of <br />County commissioners of Indian River County, its impounding <br />officers, agents and employees, are authorized to engage <br />the services of licensed veterinarians to observe or treat <br />such animals and other impounded animals belived to have <br />rabies or other infectious or contagious disease at the <br />_33_ <br />
