seems this company continues to do business in many counties <br />and municipalities. <br />Mr. Jennings suggested that the Commission contact the <br />F.B.I. in Orlando, noting that they have two companies under <br />a probe. <br />Chairman Lyons asked the Attorney whether this matter <br />could be tables until we can get a further report, and both <br />Attorney Collins and Attorney Brandenburg agreed that, based <br />on the testimony presented, the Board has the right to <br />request additional information. - <br />William Koolage, of 815 26th Avenue, commented that <br />about a year ago Mr. Knight, who now wants to sell his <br />sanitation business to Waste Management, objected to these <br />same people coming into.the county. Mr. Koolage expressed <br />the Belief that Indian River Sanitation Service has <br />financial problems and this is their way out. He was not <br />sure that in such a thing as waste disposal you can be on a <br />competitive basis, and he expressed great concern about the <br />Commission granting a transfer of franchise to an outfit <br />with this kind of reputation. <br />Commissioner Wodtke believed that Mr. Knight is vitally <br />concerned about his customers and this county; he did not <br />feel, however, that Mr. Harris should be here trying to <br />defend Waste Management of Florida. Commissioner Wodtke <br />noted that the Commission has the right to look at Waste <br />Management in the same light as a new applicant, and felt <br />that those people who would be in charge at a corporate <br />level should appear before this Board. He further felt <br />financial information should be presented as to how this <br />transfer would be capitalized and what Waste Management's <br />intentions are. <br />Mr. Knight informed the Board that his problem is that <br />time is of the essence since the contract terminates <br />December 31st.
