Commissioner Bird stated that the problem is the <br />unknown factor. <br />Mr. Burke revealed that the problem with testing is <br />that you will find all kinds of materials which are naturally <br />emitted from manufactured products, and to make a link <br />between the two is tough. Some people are very sensitive <br />and have allergic reactions. <br />Commissioner Fletcher wondered if more testing should <br />be done. <br />Mr. Burke again stressed that the medical phase of the <br />testing has been unsatisfactory. <br />Commissioner Fletcher asked Mr. Burke if he would render <br />a personal judgment that this was psychotic. <br />Mr. Burke responded that he thought that was part of it; <br />but did not believe it was the whole thing. <br />Lengthy discussion took place. <br />Chairman Scurlock pointed out that the glue and the <br />carpeting are the only new things in both judges', quarters. <br />Mr. Burke pointed out that fiberglass may even cause <br />symptoms in some people - it was possible that a.combined <br />effect of many things could produce many reactions in some <br />people. He also agreed with the Board that the only new <br />things in the Courthouse were the carpets and the glue. <br />Commissioner Wodtke wondered if the problem might be <br />in the fibers of the carpeting instead of the glue. He <br />felt it was necessary to get an industrial physician to assist <br />them in some way. <br />Mr. Kontoulas stated that he signed the work order to <br />stop the laying of the carpet in the Annex. <br />Commissioner Lyons commented that he had talked to some <br />former colleagues of his, who suggested various possibilities <br />that might be the cause of the problems in the Courthouse. <br />He felt it might be helpful to have a consultant brought in. <br />E <br />
