J U L 211982 <br />0©c <br />to put <br />into transportation administration so,they <br />can <br />keep <br />getting grants, especially since the Commission is having a <br />very difficult time trying to work out an affordable budget <br />for the County. <br />Mr. King did not feel there is a mandate that we have <br />to have a decision on this today and suggested that at the <br />next committee workshop session the question be proposed as <br />to whether these agencies can cooperatively generate the <br />start-up money needed. <br />Commissioner Bird noted that while there are many <br />agencies, only about seven of them receive Transportation <br />Disadvantaged money. <br />Ms. Fletcher stated that actually there are six, and <br />they ake the Indian River Mental Health Center, the Indian <br />River Board of Special Education, the Indian River Council <br />on Aging, Tri County Rehabilitation, the Vocational Training <br />and Sheltered Workshop, and the Economic Opportunities <br />Council. <br />Planner Johnson confirmed that this program was set up <br />only for agencies that receive state and federal funds, and <br />the others, such as the Baptist Retirement Center, for <br />instance, would continue on as before. She felt, however, <br />if all this service stopped, we are jeopardizing a lot of <br />people. <br />Chairman Scurlock felt others would expand their <br />services if the needs were there. <br />Commissioner Lyons stated that he personally would not <br />vote for adding this money to our budget for this purpose <br />for the next year. He would be willing, however, to <br />indicate to the DOT and the federal government that we would <br />be very glad to designate an organization to be the <br />coordinator and that they should provide the money and the <br />plans. <br />"L 0 <br />
