line, even after finally being allowed to present a <br />Resolution at a Hospital Board meeting respectfully <br />requesting that the Trustees hold a public hearing. This <br />Resolution emphasized that we have two private hospitals in <br />our vicinity, one owned by HCA and one by Humana, which are <br />operated at no cost to the taxpayers, which firms have <br />national buying power and professional expertise in <br />operations, and stated that since to their knowledge the <br />Trustees have never had a public presentation on the <br />advantages of selling the hospital, The Taxpayers <br />Association felt such a presentation would be beneficial and <br />enlightening to the public as well as the Trustees. <br />Mr. Acor stated that he could understand the Commission's <br />reasoning about not holding a public hearing for another <br />elective body, but asked their cooperation in putting <br />something on the ballot in November concerning this matter. <br />Robert Reider, Reef Road, agreed that there is a need <br />for a bigger public hearing on the issues, but he felt it <br />should be set straight for the record that the two private <br />hospitals groups, Humana and HCA, as well as a Minneapolis <br />group, already have made presentations before the Long Range <br />Planning Committee on the advantages and disadvantages of <br />leasing contracts. <br />Commissioner Lyons agreed that before anything is done <br />- whether the Hospital is sold or kept - that there should <br />be a full public discussion, but he believed that such a <br />meeting could be held by any one of the organizations <br />represented today. In addition, he stressed that the <br />Hospital Board is an autonomous board elected by the people <br />sitting right in this audience, and if the people are <br />unhappy with those they elected, they have the opportunity <br />this coming election to change the majority of the Hospital <br />Board. <br />L_ <br />Commissioner Lyons stated that, in his personal <br />77 <br />goof t+:us <br />
