<br />THE PROPOSED FUTURE LAND USE MAP
<br />The Future Land Use Map is an intregral part of the Land Use Element of the Com-
<br />prehensive Plan for Indian River County. Its purpose is to designate existing and future land
<br />use patterns for the next twenty years. These activity patterns include residential uses, com-
<br />mercial uses, industrial uses, institutional uses, open space preservation areas, agricultural
<br />uses, and areas with a mixture of uses.
<br />Urban residential land use districts are shown an the map by four population density
<br />classifications. These are designated as:
<br />Low Density i (LD -1) - to 3 units/acre .
<br />Low Density 2 (LD -2) - to 6 units/acre
<br />.Medium Density 1 (MD -1) - to 8 units/acre
<br />Medium Density 2 (MD -2) - to to units/acre
<br />Rural and Agricultural districts are 'shown on the map by three population density
<br />classifications. These are designated as:
<br />Agricultural (AG) - 5 acres/unit
<br />Rural -Residential (RR -1) - 2.5 acres/unit
<br />Rural -Residential (112-2) - I acre/unit
<br />Three areas within the County have developed a historical mixture of residential, com-
<br />mercial and industrial land uses. These areas have been classified as mixed-use districts -
<br />Within the boundaries of these districts, the existing variety of uses would be accom-
<br />modated to develop in the future.
<br />Mixed Use District (MXD) - to 14 units/acre -
<br />Future commercial and industrial land uses are designated at strategic locations or
<br />nodes to accommodate anticipated demands. Each node specified a general activity or ac-
<br />tivities that may be expected to develop within the next twenty years. The proposed Future
<br />Land Use Map also designates the general locations of environmentally sensitive lands.
