FUTURE LAND -USE ELE <br />OBJECT-IVE 6 --AGRICULTURAL PROTECTION <br />Indian River County will ensure that adequate land will be <br />designated or agriculturaluse proec from encroachment <br />by-oth . <br />POLICY 6,1: Indian River County shall not provide public <br />services or facilities which would induce or encourage the <br />development o -f- agricultura-lly designated land-s—e e t . <br />provide for—.he health, _safety and velfa-re of existing <br />`residents. <br />POLICY:.6- 2-: htdian-River-County shallprotect -and-conserve <br />agriculturally -designated lands ---through -financial incentives <br />and development regulations which could include tax <br />incentives, public purchase, or transfer odeve lopment <br />rights. <br />POLICY 6,3: Indian River County shall permit the <br />continuation of agricultural uses east of I-95 where they serve <br />armor enhance ---open space -ancrgreen-belt areas of the county. <br />Urban useswhich encroach on active agricultural areas shall <br />provide adequate buffers. <br />OBJECTIVE 7 PROTECTION OF NATURAL RESOURCES <br />Indian River County will have a land use pattern which complements <br />-the- n�l7feature of os the land including soils and topography, <br />annatural features,- resources and <br />systems. <br />POLICY 7.1: Indian River County shall regulate development <br />of areas Which are prone to flooding and areas within the 100 <br />year floodplain in a. manner that is consistent with <br />regulations established by the National Flood Insurance <br />Program. <br />POLICY 7.2: The County shall provide protection to <br />environmentally, sensitive lands through land eve opment <br />regulationsthat educe building -densities, require <br />mitigation—for developed areas,- permit the transfer of <br />development rights, and the use of conservation easements, <br />dedications- and public acquisition. <br />-- POLICY J�3_: env development ,_activity in areas designated as <br />environmentally sensitive or important as defined in policies <br />5.4 and 6.11 of the Conservation Element shall require an <br />- environmental-surveT-as part ot`the approval of a development <br />order. <br />POLICY, 7.4: Development in areas prone to flooding aue to <br />soil conconditions or hydro oqy shall—trot negatively- impact <br />�J-acent properties or receiving -sir-face- waterbody quality, <br />98 <br />SmeadSoft Reprint Date: Monday, August 12, 2013 - 15:22:15 - OfficialDocuments:672, Attachment Id 0, Page 32 <br />
