N 4TURAL-GROUNDWATER AQU-IFER-RECHARGE SUB_ -ELEMENT <br />r. <br />GOAL, OBJECTIVES AND POLICIES <br />OAT. <br />It is the goal of Indian River County to protect the function of <br />naturalgroundwater aquifer recharge areas, -to-prevent e <br />groundwater contamination and to extend- the-.-if-e--spar,--o-f-the <br />aquifer through water conservation. <br />Objectives Protection o Water Quality <br />By 1995, all natural groundwater recharge ams -will -be protected <br />against all sources of contamination, and a minimum of 50% of all <br />prime natures ground-waxter aquifer recharge areas, identified in <br />the Groundwater Basin- Resource AvaVabrli-ty Inventory--(GWBRAI) <br />being prepared by the SJRWMD, wi-11ire-eft as a pervious -open <br />space. <br />D�L'CY-1-.-l: By 1M -2, -the county- shall prepare a program -for <br />the protection of prime -natural -groundwater aquifer rechar-g <br />areas of the shallow aquifer. <br />" OLIC1�1. 2 -:may 1991, the county- shall offi-ciaiiy- request <br />meetinwith the SJRWMD _for development-of---a-program <br />prevent overpumping of groundwater that will result in <br />contamination from saltwater intrusion. <br />POLICY -3 By -_991-, the county -s -h- ail--Rrouide-ma <br />which shows the areas of the county designated as' -prime <br />aquifer recharge areas to the County Public Health Unit, <br />Division of Environmental Heald ' and requester at <br />Environmental--Health-nom permit -se ptir-tans d scharc ing <br />industrial and hazardous wastewater in areas identified as <br />prime natural groundwater aquifer recharge areas, and other <br />areas prone to groundwater contamination. <br />POLICY 1,4: The county, through its permitting processes <br />s a l- ensure that drainage detention structures for <br />developments -and s-ingl-e f-amil units,�meet-the- level of <br />service standards specified in the drainage-sub--element-and <br />are located in appropriate places to store and treat <br />stormwater an gradual y re eas we ater into aquifer recharge <br />areas as ident-ifi-ed-i-"-h"tormwater Managementand- l-ood <br />Protection Ordinance. <br />POLICY,he county shall adopt land development <br />regulations wh-i-chpr-otect -the-functions-of natural -drainage <br />features and prime naturalgroundwater aquifer_ recharge <br />areas. <br />SmeadSoft Reprint Date: Monday, August 12, 2013 - 15:22:25 - OfficialDocuments:672, Attachment Id 0, Page 63 <br />
