Mr. Nason agreed, but pointed out that new construction <br />is the area, in his opinion, which is most underfunded when <br />you consider the cost per unit of service that is being <br />`rendered by the department. <br />Commissioner Fletcher questioned the wording on page 3 <br />of the proposed ordinance: "Said planning checking fee shall <br />be 1/2 of the fee as set forth in Section 107..." <br />Mrs. Rymer felt that 107 may be a City number, and <br />Attorney Brandenburg agreed that is an error and should be <br />corrected. <br />Mrs. Rymer then addressed the question raised by <br />Commissioner Lyons as to the statement on Page 2 of the <br />proposed Ordinance: ".034�/square foot/100 square feet <br />$3.00." She believed this is a typographical error and that <br />it should just read: ".03� per square foot, or a minimum fee <br />of $3.00." <br />Chairman Scurlock stated that he had problems with the <br />proposed rates, but he did not have a better approach and <br />did not want to see the Building Department faced with a <br />deficit. <br />Michael Wodtke, interested citizen, took the floor and <br />stated that he did not want the county to go on a parity <br />with the City of Vero Beach. While he believed there may <br />be a need for some increase, he did not feel the fees should <br />be increased 50%. <br />Commissioner Wodtke stated that he realized we have a <br />short fall, but he did not believe it is sufficient to <br />justify a 300% increase in fees for a typical house, <br />especially when the housing industry and construction are <br />facing depressed times. <br />Administrator Wright felt that Commissioner Wodtke was <br />looking at just one part of the whole scheme, and Mr. Nason <br />emphasized that the Bu;lding Department is going to need new <br />OCT2 01982 51 PAGE 7,37 <br />
