Comprehensive Plan Capital Improvements Element table 6.5, the county spent $53,489,116 on transportation facilities in FY 2007/08. Since FY 2002/03, transportation expenditures have increased by 165.84%. Transportation expenses represented 22.07% of all county expenses in FY 2007/08. Economic Environment Included in this category are the costs of providing services which develop and improve the economic condition of the community and its citizens. Veteran Services, the Housing Authority, and the Economic Development Division of the Indian River County Chamber of Commerce undertake this function. Table 6.5 shows that those agencies spent $4,579,574 on economic environment services in FY 2007/08. Between fiscal years 2006/07 and 2007/08, economic environment expenditures increased by 372.99%. Since FY 2002/03, economic environment expenditures have increased by 684.38%. Economic environment expenses represented 1.89% of all county expenses in FY 2007/08.
