ON MOTION by Commissioner Lyons, SECONDED <br />by Commissioner Bird, the Board unanimously <br />extended the meeting to 5:30 P.M. <br />ESTABLISH POSITION OF OVERALL EMS FOR INDIAN RIVER COMITY <br />Dr. William Frazier came before the Board to make a <br />presentation re the establishment of a Countywide Emergency <br />Medical Service System and requested that the Board take <br />action as set out in the following proposal: <br />Summary of Proposal to the Board of County Commissioners <br />Indian River County, Florida <br />December 1, 1982 <br />Reference: Establishment of a County -wide Emergency Medical Service System <br />It is requested that the Board of County Commissioners take the following <br />actions to begin the process of establishing an efficient and coordinated <br />County -wide system for the provision of Emergency Medical Services: <br />1. Approve the establishment of the Indian River County EMS Council, <br />a voluntary agency, and its two supporting subcommittees, the <br />Medical Advisory Committee and the Nursing -EMS Liaison Committee, <br />as outlined in the minutes of the EMS subcommittee meeting. <br />it <br />2. Approve the position of and hiring of the Medical Director of EMS <br />for Indian River County. <br />3. Establish the salary level for the Medical Director. <br />4. Defer establishment of malpractice coverage for the Medical Director <br />until such coverage is deemed necessary. <br />Suggested Scope of Activities and Charge to the Indian River County <br />EMS Council and Medical Director <br />1. Develop a comprehensive plan for the establishment of a County -wide EMS <br />system, to include all services currently providing or expected to <br />provide EMS services within Indian River County. This plan should be <br />completed within six (6) months and should be presented to the Board <br />of County Commissioners for consideration.
