ORDINANCE NO. 2011- 007 <br />member is appointed by a single county commissioner: that member's term shall <br />commence in January following the election of the commissioner. To the extent that <br />members serve in an ex officio capacity or are appointed by other governmental <br />entities or groups, such members shall serve until replaced by new members serving in <br />the ex officio capacity or appointed by the other governmental entities orgroups. <br />In order to effectuate this policy, the present terms of all commission and board <br />members in office at the time of adoption of this Code may be extended or shortened by <br />resolution of the commission or the normal appointment terms may be shortened. <br />4. Removal. Members shall serve at the pleasure of the county commission. To the <br />extent that a member is appointed by a single commissioner, the member shall serve at <br />the pleasure of the appointing commissioner; and, to the extent that a member is <br />appointed by another governmental entity or group, the member shall serve at the <br />pleasure of the appointing governmental entity or group. <br />5. Absence of members. Absence of any member from three (3) consecutive meetings <br />without approval of the commission or board on which he sits shall, at the discretion <br />of the county commission, constitute an abandonment of the office by such member. <br />6. Serve in advisory capacity. Commissions and boards shall act only in an advisory <br />capacity to the county commission except as otherwise provided. <br />7. Compensation. Members shall receive no salary, but the county commission may <br />make provision for the payment of any expenses necessary to the proper functioning of <br />the commission or board. <br />8. Meetings. Unless otherwise provided, all meetings shall be given public notice by the <br />cxccutivc aidc to the commission commissioners' assistants, shall be open to the <br />public, and shall generally be held in the County Commission Chambers, 1840 25th <br />1801 27 Street, Vero Beach. Unless provided the clerk of the court or a department <br />secretary, the cxccutivc aids commissioners' assistants shall provide secretaries <br />support for all commissions and boards and shall keep minutes and a permanent <br />record of their proceedings. A copy of the minutes shall be forwarded to the board to <br />the county commission upon request. <br />9. Election of officers. Each commission and board shall elect from among its voting <br />members a chairman and vice-chairman annually at its first meeting in January, or at <br />its next meeting if no meeting is held in January.
