Comprehensive Plan Capital Improvements Element table 6.5, the county spent $40,841,272 on transportation facilities in FY 2008/09. Since FY 2003/04, transportation expenditures have increased by 77.28%. Transportation expenses represented 21.93% of all county expenses in FY 2008/09. Economic Environment Included in this category are the costs of providing services which develop and improve the economic condition of the community and its citizens. Veteran Services, the Housing Authority, and the Economic Development Division of the Indian River County Chamber of Commerce undertake this function. Table 6.5 shows that those agencies spent $653,547 on economic environment services in FY 2008/09. Between fiscal years 2006/07 and 2007/08, economic environment expenditures increased by 372.99%. Since FY 2002/03, economic environment expenditures have increased by 684.38%. Economic environment expenses represented 1.89% of all county expenses in FY 2007/08.
