Ordinance No. 2014-020 <br />(2) Acquire, construct, extend, enlarge, remodel, repair, improve, maintain, operate, and <br />promote aquariums, or museums that are publicly owned and operated or owned and <br />operated by a not-for-profit organization and open to the public , within the <br />boundaries of the county or subcounty special taxing district in which the tax is <br />levied; <br />(3) Promote zoological parks that are publicly owned and operated or owned and <br />operated by not-for-profit organizations and open to the public; <br />(4) Promote and advertise tourism nationally, internationally, and in the State of Florida; <br />(5) Fund convention bureaus and other tourist information bureaus as county agencies or by <br />contract with the Chamber of Commerce or similar associations in the county; <br />(6) Finance beach development and restoration as well as shoreline protection and <br />restoration of inland lakes and rivers to which there is public access; <br />(7) Pledge the revenues to secure and liquidate revenue bonds issued by the county, subject to <br />certain limitations. <br />Figure 6.7 shows the Tourist Development Tax revenue received by Indian River County over the <br />last six fiscal years. Between FY 2007/08 and <br />FY 2008/09, tourist tax revenue significantly <br />dropped. It then increased gradually through FY <br />2012/13. With the drop and gradual increases, <br />tourist tax revenue in FY 2012/13 surpassed <br />tourist tax revenue in FY 2007/08, with an <br />overall increase of 9.97% during that time frame. <br />• Local Option Fuel Tax <br />Local governments are authorized to levy up to <br />twelve cents of local option fuel taxes in the form <br />of three separate levies.
