Chairman Bird inquired about the percentage of grass <br />flats in the river in the Sebastian area, and Mr. Thomas <br />believed there are more grass flats in the Sebastian area <br />than in the southern area of the county. <br />Coates Buil, speaking as an officer of the Anglers <br />Club, felt a figure of $2,000 for signs had been mentioned <br />and found acceptable, and he was for taking $2,000 and <br />getting started with the signs. He informed the Board thatt <br />from the Coast Guard's standpoint, any time you make -a wake, <br />you are going too fast in the channel. <br />THE CHAIRMAN CALLED -FOR THE QUESTION. <br />It was voted ori'and carried unanimously. <br />DISCUSSION ON RESOLUTION RE INCREASE OF GILL NET FISHING FEE <br />Commissioner Lyons next requested that the Board give <br />consideration to adopting a Resolution supporting <br />legislation to increase the gill net fishing fee to $300 and <br />to have these funds allocated to the County to be used in <br />waterway law enforcement. He informed the Board that this <br />proposal,is backed by the local fishermen from this county, <br />as well as Martin and St. Lucie counties, and also by the <br />organized fishermen, who feel this would serve to further <br />protect the river and its resources. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Lyons, SECONDED <br />by Commissioner Wodtke, to direct the Attorney <br />to prepare a Resolution endorsing legislation as <br />recommended above. <br />Discussion ensued on whether this fee would be for an <br />insignia to display on the boat or for a license for the <br />fishermen, and John Thomas, commercial fisherman, stated <br />that there has been a great deal of discussion regarding <br />65 <br />FEB 16 1983" `¢ <br />
