THE QUESTION WAS CALLED by Chairman Bird. <br />It was voted on and carried unanimously. <br />Chairman Bird announced there would be a Public Hearing <br />on this matter at the next Regular Meeting of the Board of <br />County Commissioners at 11;00 a.m., March 16, 1983. <br />License Fee for Gill Net Fishing <br />The Board reviewed the drafted Resolution, as submitted <br />by County Attorney Brandenburg urging the Legislature to <br />adopt a licensing fee for gill net use in the Indian River. <br />Commissioner Lyons wondered if we could include the <br />Sebastian River and Attorney Brandenburg agreed he could <br />amend the Resolution to include the Sebastian River. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Lyons, <br />SECONDED by Commissioner Scurlock, that <br />the Board adopt Resolution 83-19 urging <br />the Legislature of the State of Florida to <br />adopt a License Fee for gill net fishing <br />,in the Indian River, the IntraCoastal <br />Waterway and the Sebastian River. <br />Thomas Eagen of the Angler's Club addressed the Board <br />and reported their club had circulated a petition opposing <br />gill netting and had received 3,000 plus signatures to do <br />away with netting in the river entirely. He felt that the <br />imposition of a gill net fee for commercial fisherman did <br />not go along with what the club had intended. He felt that <br />imposing a ban on gill netting in Indian River would not <br />hurt hardly anyone, since commercial fisherman''hetted mostly <br />from Wabasso to Sebastian Inlet. Mr. Eagen stated that he <br />is the official representative of the Angler's Club and <br />empowered to act for them. <br />He was not present, due to ill <br />34 <br />K , PAGE <br />
