DISCUSSION REGARDING DOUGLAS SCHOOL <br />Chairman Bird noted that at the last meeting, it was <br />indicated to Mrs. Ingram, President of the West Wabasso <br />Progressive Civic League, that we would like to pursue the <br />matter of the Douglas School further with her at this <br />meeting, at which time she could give us an update on what <br />she has been able to accomplish. <br />Mrs. Ingram came before the Board and informed them <br />that the West Wabasso Progressive Civic League is in <br />opposition to the proposal presented by the Department of <br />Corrections. The League now favors the County deeding the <br />facility to the Florida Community Health Center group, and <br />when they can no longer provide services to the community, <br />they would like to see this property revert to the County <br />and a special taxing district set up. <br />Commissioner Wodtke asked if the D.O.C. had an <br />opportunity to talk to the community. Mrs. Ingram stated <br />that she'presented them with the information discussed at <br />the last meeting, but the community was.not interested in <br />hearing a presentation by the D.O.C. and they got together a <br />w <br />petition i�pposing the use of the Douglas School facility by <br />the Youthful Offender system. <br />Fred Diaz, Executive Director of the Florida Community <br />I/ <br />Health Center, came before the Board. He noted that they <br />were negotiating with the School Board on this last year, <br />during which time they did have several meetings with the <br />Economic Opportunities Council, the Wabasso League, and the <br />community people. Mr. Diaz referred the Board to the <br />comprehensive proposal he had submitted explaining the <br />Health Center's services and how they planned to work <br />together with the West Wabasso Progressive Civic League and <br />the E.O.C. <br />j .. <br />He reviewed their proposed budget, as follows: <br />86 <br />
