P R O C L A M A T I O N <br />WHEREAS, the President of the United States has designated <br />May as OLDER AMERICANS MONTH: and <br />WHEREAS, all citizens should be enlightened of the needs of <br />the elderly, and special considerations given to the awareness <br />and fulfillment of those needs; and <br />WHEREAS, over 16,000 residents of Indian River County are <br />SENIOR CITIZENS, and qualify for special recognition; and <br />WHEREAS, the Indian River County Council on Aging has served <br />the entire county for over nine years providing services without <br />regard to race, income, religion or national heritage; and <br />WHEREAS, the Council on Aging has been named Coordinator of <br />transportation for the county, and during 1982 made over 25,000 <br />trips to supply transportation to the elderly; and <br />WHEREAS, during 1982 the Council on Aging performed over <br />14,000 hours of in-home service to the SENIOR CITIZENS of the <br />county, and expended over $80,000 in non-federal funds to <br />purchase and equip a new senior center serving the senior <br />citizens recreational, educational and nutritional needs; and <br />WHEREAS, Indian River County recognizes the efforts of the <br />Council on Aging to serve the needs of the SENIOR CITIZENS of <br />our county; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the week of <br />MAY 15 - 21, 1983 be designated as "SENIOR CITIZEN WEEK", and <br />urge all citizens of Indian River County to support the <br />activities of the Council on Aging in its efforts to recruit <br />volunteers and solicit funds to serve Indian River County's <br />SENIOR CITIZENS. <br />ATTEST: <br />Freda Wright, G erk <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />BY <br />Richard N.
