juN 1 1983 BOOK <br />651 <br />Discussion ensued re appointment of the at -large <br />member, and Commissioner Wodtke believed it is up to the <br />Chairman to appoint the at -large member. He believed this <br />is such a key issue that we probably should expand the <br />committee as it is important to have someone involved in the <br />citrus and agricultural aspect. <br />Commissioner Bowman noted that we do not have much <br />citrus or agricultural on the island and Jeannette Lier, who <br />is a member of the Hutchinson Island Committee, is in the <br />citrus business. <br />Commissioner Wodtke believed that some of the best <br />citrus in Florida is grown on our barrier island, and it is <br />of vital importance to people such as Ben Bailey, Pat <br />Corrigan and others who were at our earlier meeting. <br />Commissioner Scurlock noted that he had felt with the <br />County being represented by Commissioner Bowman, that she <br />would have access to whatever staff resources she needed and <br />he would assume the municipalities would also have their <br />staff available for technical backup. He did feel we should <br />have input from a variety of sources. <br />Commissioner Bowman noted that she looked at the ad hoc <br />committee as a committee to submit recommendations. <br />Discussion followed as to whether all those <br />participating on the committee would have a vote, and <br />Administrator Wright asked that the administrative staff be <br />removed from the vote. <br />Commissioner Scurlock agreed that the staff should not <br />be involved in policy decisions. <br />Chairman Bird felt we need to pinpoint who will be the <br />voting body. <br />Community Development Director Ring felt there would <br />there would be six: the representative from Orchid, from <br />Indian River Shores, from Vero Beach, Commissioner Bowman, <br />34 <br />
