Administrator Wright reported that we had received a <br />letter from the Sheriff saying he will not make a recom- <br />mendation as that is out of his scope of duties. <br />Commissioner Lyons reconsidered his Motion and asked <br />that it be withdrawn. Commissioner Scurlock concurred. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Scurlock, <br />SECONDED by Commissioner Lyons, that the <br />Board deny the appeal for issuance of a <br />pistol permit to Lawrence A. Ramsey. <br />Under discussion, Commissioner Wodtke expressed his <br />reluctance to deny Mr. Ramsey's application to carry a <br />concealed weapon at this particular time because Mr. Ramsey <br />had given self defense as the reason for carrying a <br />concealed weapon. He felt that the Sheriff should provide <br />the Board with some recommendation as to approval or denial. <br />Administrator Wright stated that the reason for carrying a <br />gun was not the reason for approval or denial; the reason <br />for denial was that Mr. Ramsey had stated on his application <br />that he had never been arrested when, in fact, he had. <br />Attorney Brandenburg advised that according to <br />Ordinance the Sheriff is not required to make a <br />recommendation. He is just required to provide background <br />information. <br />The Chairman CALLED FOR THE QUESTION. <br />The Motion was voted on and carried <br />by a 4-1 vote with Commissioner Wodtke <br />voting in opposition. <br />After some discussion, Mr. Ramsey was informed that he <br />could resubmit another application, but the final <br />5 <br />BOOK 53 PAGE 6 9 <br />
