Johnston, Attorney representing the <br />applicant, explained that they had requested the abandonment <br />mostly because they do not feel there is a specific use that <br />the County can put this particular road to. He pointed out <br />that all of the lots in this subdivision have beach access. <br />Also, there is no possible way to provide parking for the <br />public to use this particular beach access. He felt that <br />any foresight that the planners had as far as giving any <br />beach access at that point would be nebulous because of the <br />park that is located at the inlet and also the Ambersand <br />Beach Park. <br />Mr. Johnston felt that the acquisition of four lots <br />mentioned in the memo by Community Services Director Thomas <br />was highly speculative at this time. However, if the <br />abandonment request is approved, the adjacent owners would <br />each acquire one half of that property. These lots are very <br />small, 50 to 60 feet in that particular area, and 20 <br />additional feet would allow his clients to do something with <br />their lot. If the Board denies the abandonment request on <br />the oceanside, then they would at least request the <br />abandonment of the right-of-way on the west side of AIA. <br />Commissioner Scurlock did not want to give anything <br />away as he felt that the County has future potential uses <br />for property up there and would rather be sate than sorry. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Scurlock, <br />SECONDED by Commissioner Lyons, that the <br />Board deny the request for abandonment of <br />First Street in Ambersand Subdivision, as <br />recommended by staff. <br />Director Thomas explained that he was not aware that <br />they were interested in the west side and did not research <br />48 <br />
