NOV 21983 <br />?AGE 2 <br />Tax Collector Gene Morris explained that a tax <br />a: <br />certificate is a lien against the land for unpaid taxes and <br />reviewed in detail the numerous steps that must be followed <br />before the land can be sold for back taxes. He recommended <br />that the County apply for tax deeds on 66 tax certificates <br />which <br />are now over two <br />years <br />old. <br />A 20 -year tax search <br />fee <br />is $30 <br />for each, which <br />would <br />amount <br />to $1,980, plus $12 <br />for <br />the Sheriff's posting fee on one parcel. He explained that <br />these 66 pieces of property were west of I-95 and north of <br />S.R. #60 without proper access and not very marketable, but <br />it might be a good opportunity for the County to acquire <br />some land for future use of some sort. <br />Chairman Bird understood that the process is expected <br />to be held in about eight weeks. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Scurlock, <br />SECONDED by Commissioner Bowman, the Board <br />authorized the Tax Collector to apply for <br />tax deeds on 66 tax certificates at a cost <br />of $1,992, to be funded out of the Commission's <br />Other Professional Services account. <br />INTRODUCTION OF NEW PUBLIC HEALTH DIRECTOR <br />Dr. Carl Brumback of Health & Rehabilitative Services, <br />introduced Dr. Joseph Tucker, Vero Beach dermatologist, as <br />the new Public Health Director. Hegavea brief summary of <br />Dr. Tucker's education and background. <br />Chairman Bird, on behalf- of the entire Commission, <br />welcomed Dr. Tucker aboard. <br />Commissioner Lyons understood that Dr. Tucker intends <br />to continue his studies to obtain a Masters in Public Health <br />in the State of Florida. <br />Commissioner Lyons felt that in the long -run, the <br />County really needs that level of expertise. <br />4.11 <br />
