MUTUAL AID AGREEMENT <br />THIS AGREEMENT is between the Florida Counties of <br />Okeechobee, Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin, and Palm Beach. <br />Section 252.40, Florida Statutes, authorizes the formation <br />:Y <br />`. of mutual aid agreements between public entities within the state <br />for reciprocal aid and assistance in case of disasters too great <br />to be handled by a single entity. In many emergency situations, <br />local resources alone may be inadequate to hold life and property <br />losses to minimal levels. Resources within the -named counties <br />are sufficient, if combined, to cope with almost any disaster <br />pos-sible.• Each of the counties participating in this agreement <br />has established a local disaster preparedness organization. <br />The Counties participating in this agreement agree to the <br />following concepts and.conditions that would apply to the call for <br />mutual aid or to the lending of such aid: <br />1. Upon request of.the duly constituted authority of any <br />of county participating in this agreement, the agency receiving <br />F <br />such request for assistance will proceed by the most expeditious <br />means possible to render the necessary assistance, subject to <br />the following conditions: (a) the agency rendering such assistance <br />does not so tax its own resources aa._to_.preclude.an adequate <br />response to emergency situations within its own political boundaries, <br />and (b) no other provision of this agreement is violated. <br />2. Any assistance provided pursuant to this agreement will <br />be done at the expense.of the assisting agency, provided that if <br />a disaster area is declared by the President of the United States <br />or the Governor of the State of Florida and the area made eligible <br />for relief funds, the requesting agency will then be responsible <br />for reimbursing the assisting agency for all expenses incurred. <br />Record keeping for such reimbursements shall be a joint responsibility <br />of the two agencies involved. <br />3.
