He <br />felt that first, we need to establish the need for a public <br />golf course, and then we need to establish construction and <br />maintenance costs, explore funding sources, and look at this <br />thing, not with emotion, but in a practical way in order to - <br />set it up as an enterprise situation. If research proves it <br />is feasible, it will be brought before the Commission for <br />their approval. At some point the County's bond counsel <br />will probably require an outside consultant to do an <br />analysis of the data compiled by the committee and assist in <br />preparing a final recommendation to the Board. Commissioner <br />Bird hoped that everyone agreed with the direction being <br />taken and looked forward -to their support. <br />Dr. Harold E. Djorup felt very encouraged to hear what <br />has been done and what is planned, and emphasized that <br />Citizens for a County Golf Course are convinced of the great <br />need for a public golf course in Indian River County. He <br />informed the Board that they plan on doing everything <br />possible to help Commissioner Bird and the feasibility <br />committee and will be.glad to provide the committee with a <br />survey made by the Florida Municipal Golf Course Association <br />covering the construction and operation of 17 courses, as <br />well as a PGA estimated golf course operation chart. Dr. <br />Djorup then presented petitions in support of construction <br />of a public golf course signed by approximately 2,000 <br />residents and asked that they be made a part of the record. <br />(SAID PETITIONS ARE ON FILE IN THE OFFICE OF THE CLERK.) <br />Gus Mannino, Co -Chairman of Citizens for a County Golf <br />Course and new resident of the County, commented that one of <br />the main reasons he left New York was because he had to get <br />up at 4:00 a.m. in order to play golf on the weekends. <br />However, he has not found conditions much better down here. <br />He also has done some exploratory work and just received <br />some information from Larry Smith, who is a consultant with <br />17 <br />FEB 15 1984 <br />
