Discussion followed as to what would be done to the <br />intersection, and the Administrator stated that we would <br />just leave it as it is. <br />Mr. McQueen noted that there would be a new improved <br />signal. <br />Commissioner Bird stated that he would speak in favor <br />of the staff recommendations, including the paving of the <br />parking lots. He noted that if we'don't use these funds <br />now, he did not know when we will ever do so. This is a <br />very large recreational area which is utilized by many <br />thousands of our residents, and he felt it will continue to <br />be a hub of recreational activity. Commissioner Bird <br />therefore, felt we have justification to spend our transpor- <br />tation dollars in that area. <br />Chairman Scurlock asked about parking meters and <br />• F J <br />brought up the fact that the High School charges for parking <br />in their lots. <br />Commissioner Wodtke expressed concern about spending <br />that kind of money, and felt, in essence we are going to put <br />a parking lot around the Citrus Bowl and the softball field, <br />and it is going in simply because it is for recreation. <br />Director Davis emphasized that there are drainage <br />considerations; it is a mess and a high maintenance <br />situation, and we have been spending a lot of money there. <br />He felt the the maintenance savings that would be achieved <br />by the paving are worthy of consideration. <br />Commissioner Lyons stated that he is tired of asking <br />for cooperation from the other governmental bodies, and. <br />feels that now is the time to go ahead with this. <br />Administrator Wright clarified that staff recommenda- <br />tion is to accept items 1 through 5, delete 6, accept item 7 <br />and Alternate A of Item 8, and delete 9. <br />55 <br />FE B 2 2 1994 Bang 56 PACF 2,5-3 <br />
