He believed the best way to pay for this is <br />a 1� one year sales tax. <br />Chairman Scurlock doubted that the 1� one year sales <br />tax option would bring in enough money in one year to, cover <br />the cost, and Administrator Wright agreed there might be a <br />need to incur some short term financing costs. He noted <br />that staff is working on other sources, and he would like to <br />have an impact fee established to deal with future <br />expansion. <br />Discussion followed on the desirability of the one year <br />sales tax, which would spread out over resident and non <br />resident alike, as opposed to having future residents <br />shoulder part of the burden. It was also noted that the <br />fact that the 1G sales tax would only apply to the first <br />thousand was not totally equitable. <br />Commissioner Lyons asked the Sheriff if he felt he <br />could find a jail that meets state requirements and require <br />less staff, and the Sheriff agreed that he could not. <br />Commissioner Lyons continued to emphasize the desirability <br />of adding the alternate at this time. <br />Chairman Scurlock asked the architect if there is <br />anything he could cut to bring the cost of the facility <br />down, and Mr. Dorsey stated that there is not; they have <br />been looking at this for a long time and have tried to cut <br />costs every way possible. <br />Commissioner Lyons confirmed that he has had some very <br />plain conversation with the architects in this regard. <br />Administrator Wright stated that he would like to bid <br />the alternates as lA and 1B. <br />Commissioner Wodtke brought up the possibility of <br />building a joint facility with our neighboring counties, and <br />noted that in this way, there could be one common major <br />facility and the counties could continue to make use of <br />their old facilities. <br />75 <br />MAR 7 1498 BOOK 56 FACE 353 <br />
