TO: The Honorable Members of DATE: April 25, 1984 FILE: <br />the Board of County Commissioners <br />SUBJECT: APPLICATION FOR NEW <br />PISTOL PERMIT <br />FROM: Michael Wright <br />County Administrator REFERENCES: <br />The following named person has applied through the <br />Clerk's Office for a pistol permit. The clerk <br />forwarded the application to this office for <br />consideration in a memorandum dated April 16, 1984: <br />Edward Lee Ayers <br />It is my recommendation that this application be <br />denied. <br />Administrator Wright noted that Mr. Ayers is in <br />attendance today, and Chairman Scurlock asked Mr. Ayers if <br />he wished to make a statement. <br />Edward Ayers addressed the Board and stated that the <br />information he supplied to Administrator Wright and also the <br />letter submitted to the Board correctly states his reasons <br />for wanting a gun permit. He has been issued a County <br />permit in this county before, and has in his possession <br />copies of these permits which were issued by Sam Joyce and <br />Ralph Harris. Even considering the recent newspaper <br />coverage, he saw no reason why his permit should be denied. <br />Commissioner Wodtke explained that the Board does not <br />get a copy of the application and asked Administrator Wright <br />what reasons were given by the applicant for wanting a <br />pistol permit to carry a concealed weapon. Administrator <br />Wright advised that the application stated that the reason <br />was for personal and family protection.
