r <br />MAY 16 1984 <br />Booz 57 wacE 56 <br />Commissioner Lyons wished to emphasize that there is no <br />interest on the part of the Commission in doing anything to <br />harm John's Island; we are simply looking for a more <br />efficient way of irrigating, and he takes violent exception <br />to Mr. Smith's comment that it is none of the county's <br />business. We are interested in getting together and finding <br />a way to satisfy John's Island so we don't have a disaster <br />on the,golf course, and we also want to do our very best to <br />conserve our water source, which is subject to continuing <br />study. <br />Chairman Scurlock felt we should hear from Tom Lockwood <br />of Saw Mill Ridge at this point. <br />Mr. Lockwood took the floor and stated that one of the <br />problems that is surfacing today is that they have two <br />representatives on this issue. In his opinion, there is a <br />current valid lease between Lost Tree Corporation and <br />probably more correctly Westport Utilities and Saw Mill <br />Ridge, and the operating entity is Saw Mill Ridge. He <br />believed if it were possible to deal through one entity it <br />would be considerably easier for all concerned. Mr. <br />Lockwood stated that he does recognize the county's concern. <br />He confirmed there are some problems between the owners of. <br />John's Island and his firm as to direction, but he did <br />believe they are -minor and can be solved. Mr. Lockwood felt <br />that if the Board will give -him and Mr. Smith some time to <br />work together on this, they will be able to come up with a <br />solution that will satisfy everyone concerned. <br />Chairman Scurlock felt it would be fine if Mr. Lockwood <br />and Mr. Smith would work together towards a solution. <br />Commissioner Bird stated that his interest is water <br />conservation and finding the most equitable way. He empha- <br />sized that Mr. Lockwood and Lost Tree do have an asset that <br />possibly with some cooperative effort, the County may be <br />able to utilize to provide other options.
