RESOLUTION NO. 2010- 042 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, <br />FLORIDA, DESIGNATING THE DISCOVERY <br />STATION AND CLASSROOM AT THE <br />ENVIRONMENTAL LEARNING CENTER AS <br />THE COUNTY'S "SUSTAINABLE EDUCATION <br />CENTER". <br />WHEREAS, the Environmental Learning Center, Inc. has educated County <br />residents, especially young people, about the County's rich, diverse environment since <br />1988; and <br />WHEREAS, in § 255.2575 Florida Statutes, the Florida Legislature has <br />recognized the importance of energy efficient and sustainable buildings; and <br />WHEREAS, the County has been certified as a Local Green Government and <br />has received a Gold Certification for its efforts exhibiting leadership in becoming <br />sustainable; and <br />WHEREAS, the recent construction of the Discovery Station and Classroom at <br />the Environmental Learning Center showcases an abundance of green building <br />features, including a solar hot water heating system, a photovoltaic panel system <br />helping to power most of the Environmental Learning Center's electrical needs, and a <br />cistern that collects rainwater that is filtered and pumped into toilets for flushing; and <br />WHEREAS, the County wishes to recognize the Environmental Learning Center <br />and other buildings that exhibit sustainable measures, <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that: <br />1. The Discovery Station and Classroom at the Environmental Learning <br />Center are hereby designated as Indian River County's "Sustainable <br />Education Center". <br />2. The Board of County Commissioners encourages all citizens to strive to <br />incorporate green and sustainable practices in their everyday life. <br />1 <br />
