JUL 1 R 1984 BOOK 57 Fa, -,737 <br />RECOMMENDATIONS AND FUNDING <br />It is recommended that the Board approve the FEC Agreement. <br />Funding to be from Account No. 306-214-541-33.49(8th Street <br />Proejct account). Balance as of July 3, 1984 is 29,200.and <br />Account No. 306-214-541-33.19 balance $20,000. <br />Director Davis felt this is a conservative budget and <br />stated that he would like to have this extension in order to <br />provide the proper additional lane so once we signalize the <br />intersection, we can phase it to match up with east of <br />U.S.I. <br />Commissioner Wodtke noted that the backup material <br />indicates that we have made application to the FEC to widen <br />the crossing, and he wished to know if the Board approved <br />that application. <br />Director Davis explained that it was part of the <br />project which the Commission approved. He confirmed that <br />the staff sent the application in, but did not approve <br />anything; they just wanted the figures. <br />Commissioner Bird asked how strongly Director Davis <br />felt about this extension of the crossing. Mr. Davis <br />believed that once this is signalized, traffic will pick up <br />very quickly, and Chairman Scurlock felt that is no question <br />about the need for the extension. <br />Considerable discussion ensued re the third lane <br />between the railroad track and U.S.I, the need for storage, <br />the increased traffic, etc. Mr. Davis stated that about <br />four vehicles could stack up, but you have to allow room for <br />the transition. <br />Commissioner Wodtke wished it confirmed that the <br />$120,000 project budget will be sufficient to cover the cost <br />for extension of the railroad crossing, and Mr. Davis stated <br />that it will be. <br />Commissioner Bird asked whether our long range plans <br />might include the four laning of 8th Street, and Mr. Davis <br />stated that when you look at the whole picture, he did <br />24 <br />
