restricted areas from November 15th to March 31st. She <br />favored year -around speed limits being posted as the manatee <br />are in the river all year. It was her understanding that <br />should the Board adopt a resolution, they would also have to <br />approach the Brevard County Commissioners and ask them to <br />adopt a similar resolution. From there it would be turned <br />over to Mr. Pat Rose, the State manatee coordinator, who <br />would have it researched before a final decision is made by <br />them. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Lyons, <br />SECONDED by Commissioner Wodtke, the Board <br />unanimously authorized staff to begin work on <br />this matter as discussed. <br />It was generally agreed that after all the information <br />is obtained, they would go ahead with a resolution and <br />contact the State and forward all that material to Brevard <br />County. <br />Commissioner Bird asked what restrictions this would <br />involve, as far as boating and water quality are concerned, <br />if this was implemented by the State. <br />Mrs. Stocker noted that the Boater's Guide contains no <br />actual motor boat restrictions -- it just slows them down. <br />Chairman Scurlock pointed out that the Audubon Society <br />and Florida Power & Light put on excellent seminars that <br />tell you everything you want to know about manatees. <br />Mrs. Stocker also pointed out that just recently the <br />Palm Bay City Council designated the mouth of Turkey Creek <br />and part of the waters in Indian River as a manatee <br />sanctuary, and they have all the information necessary as to <br />how to proceed. <br />W <br />JUL 2 5 1984 .
