Reducing the Summer Slide to Increase Kindergarten Readiness <br />Priority Need Area Addressed: Early Childhood Development <br />Brief Description of the Program: The Education Foundation, in partnership, with the School <br />District of Indian River County (SDIRC) seeks to increase Kindergarten readiness rates for 4 year old <br />children by extending the school year with 36 instructional days. This proposal seeks to replicate and <br />expand upon the pilot program that extends the school year through the end of July 2016 with priority <br />given to homeless, migrant and low scoring students. Presently there are Title I dollars to extend the <br />school year for 4 years olds enrolled in the Voluntary Pre -Kindergarten (VPK) program through the <br />end of June. However, we are requesting June funding to add 1 Non -Title I School, Treasure Coast <br />Elementary, who has high socio-economic needs.
