Reducing the Summer Slide to Increase Kindergarten Readiness
Priority Need Area Addressed: Early Childhood Development
Brief Description of the Program: The Education Foundation, in partnership, with the School
District of Indian River County (SDIRC) seeks to increase Kindergarten readiness rates for 4 year old
children by extending the school year with 36 instructional days. This proposal seeks to replicate and
expand upon the pilot program that extends the school year through the end of July 2016 with priority
given to homeless, migrant and low scoring students. Presently there are Title I dollars to extend the
school year for 4 years olds enrolled in the Voluntary Pre -Kindergarten (VPK) program through the
end of June. However, we are requesting June funding to add 1 Non -Title I School, Treasure Coast
Elementary, who has high socio-economic needs. In addition, we need funding for the month of July
to support 10 classes at 5 poverty level school sites.
SUMMARY REPORT — (Enter Information In The Black Cells Only)
Budget Total
Estimated number of children to be served via indivdual services
Estimated number of adults to be served via indvidual services
Estimated number to be served in via services in a group
$167,613
150
0
15
**If request increased 5% or more, briefly explain why.
